“It’s got a great beat and you can dance to it!” That often heard line from American Bandstands “Rate A Record” segment is the perfect description of the all-new live version of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Live At Harveys Lake Tahoe.
Whether you rate Harveys new show a 98, 95 or a perfect 100, there is no doubt you’ll leave singing and tapping your toes after a non-stop barrage of pop hits and dances adapted from 5 decades of American Bandstand memories. As host of the new high-energy lake Tahoe production, Clark takes his audience via video on a non-stop musical journey through the program he hosted, speaking nightly to the audience from the original American Bandstand television set at ABC Studios in Hollywood. Clark recalls “When we first went on the air in the early 50’s, critics said, “who wants to watch a bunch of kids listening to records”. Obviously, everyone Clark exclaims, proudly pointing to his show’s success. In his role as host of the show, Clark notes that more than 600 youngsters danced to about 65,000 records in the 43 years it has been on television. Thats the nostalgic backdrop and stage set for the all new live Harveys show that features a talented Hollywood cast of singers and dancers, augmented by “The American Bandstand Live Party Band”, which rocks on stage throughout the festivities. We won’t spoil the surprise, but there are at least three show stoppers.
And that’s not all, the live action is augmented by American Bandstand’s “Rate A Record” and trivia contests for the audience, plus classic video clips and celebrity interviews from the original Bandstand shows, comedy and much more. At one point for instance, Clark asks a young Michael Jackson why is sisters Janet and Latoya aren’t appearing on the show with the Jackson 5, “The girls are too shy”, a bubbly Michael answers in what has turned out to be the understatement of the decade.
Dick Clarks American Bandstand is the result of a three year, $3 million collaboration that links Lake Tahoes largest casino hotel with Dick Clark Productions Inc, of Burbank, Calif, and World Productions of Los Angeles. Barry Summmers of World Productions, the shows Executive Producer notes that the Harveys show is different then any previous versions of “Dick Clarks American Bandstand” in that it is totally true to the television series. Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Live is currently playing to sold out audiences and receiving rave reviews. The show has become thelongest running live musical production in the history of Lake Tahoe. Dick Clarks American Bandstand Live plays twice nightly at 7:30 and 10, except Wednesday in Harvey’s Emerald Theater, which has been re-designed reminiscent of the original American Bandstand television set.
